Engineering Cutoffs

Official formula calculators for state and national engineering admissions. Covers TNEA Engineering and MHT CET.

This section covers 2 verified admission rules: TNEA Engineering, published by Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE); MHT CET, published by State Common Entrance Test Cell. Each calculator page shows the governing formula, the eligibility gate, the tie-breaking order and the FAQ students actually ask.

What engineering admissions actually measure

Indian engineering, medical, agriculture and university admissions are not decided by one exam. They are decided by a merit score that each conducting authority builds out of two or three different inputs, then uses to rank every eligible applicant. A "cutoff" is simply the last score that was offered a seat in a given college and course.

These 2 rules are applied by 2 different named authorities across Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, which is exactly why a score from one of them cannot be swapped for a score from another. The inputs differ too.

TNEA Engineering, MHT CET read 3 separate subject or paper marks each (3, 4 marks).

The shared weighting philosophy

Across these 2 rules the pattern is consistent: each authority names the subjects or papers that count, states how many marks each one contributes, and then sums the components. The published weightings are TNEA Engineering: 100% Weightage on Mathematics, 50% Weightage on Physics, 50% Weightage on Chemistry. The total is always the sum of those components, so your score is directly comparable with the closing cutoff printed in the counselling prospectus.

Two consequences follow. First, entering a subject mark on the wrong scale (for example a subject printed out of 200 when the rule expects out of 100) silently produces a wrong score, so normalise before you type. Second, because components are weighted unequally, a high mark in one subject can be worth more than a low mark in another — which is exactly why the official tie-breaking order exists for candidates who finish level on the composite.

How to choose between them

  • Match the rule to your admission route, not the other way round. Your state quota counselling only accepts the authority that runs it. A strong score in another authority's exam cannot be converted into a seat here.
  • Check the eligibility gate before optimising the score. 1 of these rule applies a minimum aggregate, usually 45% for general and 40% for reserved categories. Clearing the gate is binary; a higher composite cannot rescue a failed eligibility check.
  • Compare like with like. These calculators score out of 200. Scores on different scales are not comparable, so never compare a percentage from one authority against a raw mark from another.
  • Plan for the closing cutoff, not the opening one. Opening cutoffs are optimistic. Use last year's closing score per college and course, then leave yourself margin.

What each one computes

  • TNEA Engineering Cutoff Calculator

Calculates the official 200-mark engineering cutoff score for Anna University and affiliated engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu based on 12th standard Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics marks.

    Cutoff = Mathematics + (Physics / 2) + (Chemistry / 2)

  • MHT CET Score & PCM Eligibility Calculator

Calculates your MHT CET PCM entrance score (Mathematics 100 + Physics 50 + Chemistry 50 = 200) and verifies the HSC Class 12 PCM minimum eligibility criteria for CAP counseling.

    MHT CET Score = Mathematics (100) + Physics (50) + Chemistry (50)
