Official Steps

  1. 1

    MHT CET Marking Scheme

Mathematics paper consists of 50 questions worth 2 marks each (100 marks). Physics and Chemistry consist of 50 questions each worth 1 mark (50 marks each). No negative marking.

Total CET = Maths + Physics + Chemistry

    Example: 76 + 38 + 40 = 154 / 200

  2. 2

    HSC Board PCM Eligibility Check

The State CET Cell requires at least 50% (150/300) in HSC PCM for the Open Category, or at least 40% (120/300) for Reserved categories, EWS and PwD candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only.

    HSC % = (HSC PCM / 300) * 100

    Example: (210 / 300) * 100 = 70.00%

Official Tie-Breaking Order

What this cutoff score means

The number this calculator produces is your merit or cutoff score, measured out of 200. State Common Entrance Test Cell does not publish a rank directly from your marks; it converts your marks into this single normalised score and then ranks every eligible candidate against it.

During counselling, your score is compared against the closing cutoff of each course and college. If your score is at or above the closing score for a course in your preferred college list, you become eligible to be offered that seat in that round. Cutoffs move every year because candidate volume, exam difficulty and the reservation seat matrix all change, so treat this number as an estimate of your position — not a guaranteed admission.

The score alone is not enough. Your reservation category, your domicile, the quota you are eligible for (such as management, minority, or government quota), and the number of seats available in that course all feed into the final allotment. If two candidates land on the same score, the tie-breaking order published by State Common Entrance Test Cell decides who is placed higher.

Because this rule is not a single exam score, it combines 4 separate inputs. Enter each value exactly as printed on your own marksheet — the official formula only works on the same scale the authority used.

What you need to enter

State Common Entrance Test Cell builds this cutoff from the following values. Take the numbers from your own Class 12 marksheet or entrance scorecard — do not round or estimate them.

Inputs required to calculate the MHT CET Score & PCM Eligibility Calculator cutoff
Input Range Unit What it means
Maths MHT CET Mathematics Score 0 to 100 out of 100 Maths carries 2 marks per question (max 100)
Physics MHT CET Physics Score 0 to 50 out of 50 Physics carries 1 mark per question (max 50)
Chemistry MHT CET Chemistry Score 0 to 50 out of 50 Chemistry carries 1 mark per question (max 50)
HSC PCM HSC / Class 12 Board PCM Total 0 to 300 out of 300 Total marks in Physics + Chemistry + Maths in 12th Board (max 300)

Practical marks and internal assessment are included when the authority includes them. Check the official brochure on cetcell.mahacet.org before entering values.

Formula & step-by-step breakdown

Governing equation

MHT CET Score = Mathematics (100) + Physics (50) + Chemistry (50)

Final merit score: 200 marks (/ 200). This is the exact rule published by State Common Entrance Test Cell for 2025-2026 admissions.

Printed notation

Score (out of 200) = Mathematics (out of 100) + Physics (out of 50) + Chemistry (out of 50)

Exactly as written in the official admission brochure. Shown as plain text for clarity.

Step-by-step calculation

Work through these 2 steps in order and you will arrive at the same score this page calculates for you. Each step is the published rule, not an approximation.

Official rules & eligibility

These are the conditions published by State Common Entrance Test Cell. A strong cutoff score does not help if you fail any of them.

Governed by State CET Cell, Government of Maharashtra Information Brochure.

There is no negative marking in MHT CET.

CAP Engineering ranks are based on the MHT CET Percentile Score computed across exam shifts.

HSC eligibility: at least 50% (150/300) in PCM for the Open Category; at least 40% (120/300) for Reserved categories, EWS and PwD candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only.

Tie-breaking order

When two or more applicants land on exactly the same cutoff score, State Common Entrance Test Cell resolves the rank position using the following hierarchy, in order:

  1. 1. Higher percentile / marks in Mathematics in MHT CET
  2. 2. Higher percentile / marks in Physics in MHT CET
  3. 3. Higher percentile / marks in Chemistry in MHT CET
  4. 4. Higher percentage of marks in Board HSC PCM
  5. 5. Candidate older in age

Your final rank also depends on your reservation category, domicile and the seats available in the round. Two candidates with identical scores and identical subject marks can still finish in different positions because a reserved candidate is ranked within the reserved list for that course.

MHT CET questions answered

The questions students ask most about this specific admission rule.

Are HSC marks included in the MHT CET engineering rank?

The Maharashtra Government decided to base CAP engineering admissions on 100% MHT CET entrance percentile scores, while Class 12 PCM marks serve as the mandatory qualifying eligibility gate: at least 50% (150/300) for the Open Category and at least 40% (120/300) for Reserved categories, EWS and PwD candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only.

How MHT CET compares to other entrance exams

Cutoff scores are not comparable across exams because each authority normalises differently. What you can compare is the structure of each rule: the maximum score, how many inputs it takes, and how the components are weighted.

What to do after you get your cutoff

  1. 1. Compare against last year's closing cutoff

Find the closing score for each of your preferred colleges and branches for 2025-2026, then check whether your score clears it. Closing cutoffs, not opening cutoffs, are the realistic benchmark.

  2. 2. Register for counselling on the official portal

Only State Common Entrance Test Cell can allot you a seat. Complete the counselling registration on the official website, keep the application number safe, and pay the counselling fee within the published deadline.

  3. 3. Get your certificates ready early

Community, nativity, income and disability certificates take weeks. Apply through your school or the taluk office as soon as the certificate window opens, because you cannot choose a preferred college without them.

  4. 4. Build a wide preference list

State Common Entrance Test Cell usually allots in rounds. A long, realistic preference list of colleges and branches protects you if your first choice is filled in an earlier round.

  5. 5. Keep a second option in a nearby state

Cutoff scores move every year, so keep a realistic backup course or college ready rather than betting on one target score.

  6. 6. Save or share your result

Use the share or copy button above to keep a record of the score and the inputs you used — it hands you text you can paste anywhere. Printing still works from the browser's own Ctrl + P, which leaves out the controls and keeps the score, the breakdown and the formula. Both help when filling the counselling form and when checking with a mentor.

If you are also applying outside Maharashtra, these admission rules are governed by different authorities with different weightage formulas, so their cutoff scores are not directly comparable with yours.
