Formula & Step-by-Step Breakdown
Cutoff = Biology + ((Physics + Chemistry) / 2)
Official Steps
-
1
Biology Component (100 Marks)
Biology is taken at 100% full weightage (100 marks).
Bio Part = Biology Marks
Example: Biology = 90 -> 90.00
-
2
Physics & Chemistry Combined (100 Marks)
Sum of Physics and Chemistry marks is halved (divided by 2) to scale to 100 marks.
PC Part = (Physics + Chemistry) / 2
Example: (82 + 86) / 2 = 84.00
-
3
Total Paramedical Cutoff (200 Marks)
Add Biology Component and PC Component together.
Total = 90.00 + 84.00 = 174.00 / 200
Example: 174.00 / 200
Official Tie-Breaking Order
- Higher marks in Biology / Botany & Zoology
- Higher marks in Chemistry
- Higher marks in Physics
- Date of birth (seniority in age)

What this cutoff score means
The number this calculator produces is your merit or cutoff score, measured out of 200. Selection Committee does not publish a rank directly from your marks; it converts your marks into this single normalised score and then ranks every eligible candidate against it.
During counselling, your score is compared against the closing cutoff of each course and college. If your score is at or above the closing score for a course in your preferred college list, you become eligible to be offered that seat in that round. Cutoffs move every year because candidate volume, exam difficulty and the reservation seat matrix all change, so treat this number as an estimate of your position — not a guaranteed admission.
The score alone is not enough. Your reservation category, your domicile, the quota you are eligible for (such as management, minority, or government quota), and the number of seats available in that course all feed into the final allotment. If two candidates land on the same score, the tie-breaking order published by Selection Committee decides who is placed higher.
Because this rule is not a single exam score, it combines 3 separate inputs. Enter each value exactly as printed on your own marksheet — the official formula only works on the same scale the authority used.
What you need to enter
Selection Committee builds this cutoff from the following values. Take the numbers from your own Class 12 marksheet or entrance scorecard — do not round or estimate them.
| Input | Range | Unit | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biology Biology Marks (or Botany + Zoo avg) | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | If studied Botany & Zoology, enter average of both out of 100 |
| Physics Physics Marks | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | Physics Marks exactly as printed on your marksheet. |
| Chemistry Chemistry Marks | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | Chemistry Marks exactly as printed on your marksheet. |
Practical marks and internal assessment are included when the authority includes them. Check the official brochure on tnmedicalselection.net before entering values.
Formula & step-by-step breakdown
Governing equation
Cutoff = Biology + ((Physics + Chemistry) / 2)
Final merit score: 200 marks (/ 200). This is the exact rule published by Selection Committee for 2025-2026 admissions.
Printed notation
Cutoff (out of 200) = Biology + (Physics + Chemistry) / 2
Exactly as written in the official admission brochure. Shown as plain text for clarity.
Step-by-step calculation
Work through these 3 steps in order and you will arrive at the same score this page calculates for you. Each step is the published rule, not an approximation.

Official rules & eligibility
These are the conditions published by Selection Committee. A strong cutoff score does not help if you fail any of them.
Published in the Official Prospectus for Admission to Paramedical Degree Courses by DME TN.
For candidates who studied Botany and Zoology separately: (Botany + Zoology) taken together as Biology out of 100.
For B.Pharm, candidates with PCM (Maths instead of Biology) are also eligible with Maths taking 100 marks.
Tie-breaking order
When two or more applicants land on exactly the same cutoff score, Selection Committee resolves the rank position using the following hierarchy, in order:
- 1. Higher marks in Biology / Botany & Zoology
- 2. Higher marks in Chemistry
- 3. Higher marks in Physics
- 4. Date of birth (seniority in age)
Your final rank also depends on your reservation category, domicile and the seats available in the round. Two candidates with identical scores and identical subject marks can still finish in different positions because a reserved candidate is ranked within the reserved list for that course.
TN Paramedical questions answered
The questions students ask most about this specific admission rule.
Is NEET required for TN Paramedical courses (B.Pharm, B.Sc Nursing)?
No. Admissions to Government and Government quota seats in private paramedical colleges in Tamil Nadu are conducted purely based on 12th board cutoff marks, not NEET.
How TN Paramedical compares to other entrance exams
Cutoff scores are not comparable across exams because each authority normalises differently. What you can compare is the structure of each rule: the maximum score, how many inputs it takes, and how the components are weighted.
| Calculator | State | Max score | Weighting rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| TN Paramedical This page | Tamil Nadu | 200 / 200 | Cutoff = Biology + ((Physics + Chemistry) / 2) |
| TNEA Engineering | Tamil Nadu | 200 / 200 | Cutoff = Mathematics + (Physics / 2) + (Chemistry / 2) |
| TNAU Agriculture | Tamil Nadu | 200 / 200 | Cutoff = (Physics / 2) + (Chemistry / 2) + (Biology / 2) + (4th Subject / 2) — Biology may be one 100-mark subject or the SUM of Botany + Zoology (out of 200) |
| KCET Engineering | Karnataka | 100 % / 100 | Combined Score = ((Board PCM / 300) * 50) + ((KCET PCM / 180) * 50) |
| EAPCET Cutoff | Andhra Pradesh & Telangana | 100 / 100 | Composite = ((EAPCET Score / 160) * 75) + ((Inter Group % / 100) * 25) |
| KEAM Index | Kerala | 600 / 600 | KEAM Index = Entrance Scaled (300) + Board Scaled (300), where Board Scaled = Maths (150) + Physics (90) + Chemistry (60) |
| GUJCET ACPC | Gujarat | 100 Merit Marks / 100 | Merit Marks = ((Board PCM Theory / 300) * 60) + ((GUJCET PCM / 120) * 40) |
What to do after you get your cutoff
-
1. Compare against last year's closing cutoff
Find the closing score for each of your preferred colleges and branches for 2025-2026, then check whether your score clears it. Closing cutoffs, not opening cutoffs, are the realistic benchmark.
-
2. Register for counselling on the official portal
Only Selection Committee can allot you a seat. Complete the counselling registration on the official website, keep the application number safe, and pay the counselling fee within the published deadline.
-
3. Get your certificates ready early
Community, nativity, income and disability certificates take weeks. Apply through your school or the taluk office as soon as the certificate window opens, because you cannot choose a preferred college without them.
-
4. Build a wide preference list
Selection Committee usually allots in rounds. A long, realistic preference list of colleges and branches protects you if your first choice is filled in an earlier round.
-
5. Keep a second option in a nearby state
We already publish 5 verified calculators for Tamil Nadu, so you can check a backup admission route in the same counselling system.
-
6. Save or share your result
Use the share or copy button above to keep a record of the score and the inputs you used — it hands you text you can paste anywhere. Printing still works from the browser's own Ctrl + P, which leaves out the controls and keeps the score, the breakdown and the formula. Both help when filling the counselling form and when checking with a mentor.
Looking at a different state?
If you are also applying outside Tamil Nadu, these admission rules are governed by different authorities with different weightage formulas, so their cutoff scores are not directly comparable with yours.
