Component Breakdown
| Component | Score | Max | Share of Max | Official Rule Note |

Formula & Step-by-Step Breakdown
Cutoff = (Physics / 2) + (Chemistry / 2) + (Biology / 2) + (4th Subject / 2) — Biology may be one 100-mark subject or the SUM of Botany + Zoology (out of 200)
Official Steps
-
1
Subject Normalization to 50 Each
Each of the 4 eligible core subjects is evaluated out of 50 marks. A single 100-mark subject is divided by 2; Botany and Zoology are two separate 100-mark subjects, so their SUM out of 200 is divided by 2 and contributes out of 100.
Subject Component = Subject Marks / 2
Example: Physics 88/2 = 44, Chemistry 86/2 = 43, Biology 92/2 = 46, Maths 90/2 = 45
-
2
Combine all 4 Subjects
Sum the 50-mark components to get the official aggregate cutoff out of 200.
Cutoff = 44 + 43 + 46 + 45 = 178.00 / 200
Example: Total = 178.00 / 200
Official Tie-Breaking Order
- Marks out of 50 in Mathematics, or in Biology / Botany + Zoology if Mathematics was not studied
- Marks out of 50 in Physics
- Marks out of 50 in Chemistry
- Date of birth (older candidate ranked higher)
- Random number allotted by TNAU (higher number ranked higher)

What this cutoff score means
The number this calculator produces is your merit or cutoff score, measured out of 200. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University does not publish a rank directly from your marks; it converts your marks into this single normalised score and then ranks every eligible candidate against it.
During counselling, your score is compared against the closing cutoff of each course and college. If your score is at or above the closing score for a course in your preferred college list, you become eligible to be offered that seat in that round. Cutoffs move every year because candidate volume, exam difficulty and the reservation seat matrix all change, so treat this number as an estimate of your position — not a guaranteed admission.
The score alone is not enough. Your reservation category, your domicile, the quota you are eligible for (such as management, minority, or government quota), and the number of seats available in that course all feed into the final allotment. If two candidates land on the same score, the tie-breaking order published by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University decides who is placed higher.
Because this rule is not a single exam score, it combines 4 separate inputs. Enter each value exactly as printed on your own marksheet — the official formula only works on the same scale the authority used.
What you need to enter
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University builds this cutoff from the following values. Take the numbers from your own Class 12 marksheet or entrance scorecard — do not round or estimate them.
| Input | Range | Unit | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics Physics Marks | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | Physics Marks exactly as printed on your marksheet. |
| Chemistry Chemistry Marks | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | Chemistry Marks exactly as printed on your marksheet. |
| Biology / Botany+Zoology Biology Marks (or Botany + Zoology) | 0 to 200 (step 0.5) | out of 200 | If Biology was one subject, enter it out of 100. If you studied Botany and Zoology separately, ADD the two marks together and enter the total out of 200 (Botany 90 + Zoology 90 = 180). TNAU sums Botany + Zoology as two separate 50-mark subjects; it never averages them. When you use this 200-mark option, leave the 4th subject field at 0 because Group II(A) then has only Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. |
| Maths / CS 4th Subject (Maths / Computer Science) | 0 to 100 (step 0.5) | out of 100 | Mathematics, or Computer Science if Mathematics was not studied. Enter 0 when you have already supplied Botany + Zoology in the Biology field. |
Practical marks and internal assessment are included when the authority includes them. Check the official brochure on tnau.ac.in before entering values.
Formula & step-by-step breakdown
Governing equation
Cutoff = (Physics / 2) + (Chemistry / 2) + (Biology / 2) + (4th Subject / 2) — Biology may be one 100-mark subject or the SUM of Botany + Zoology (out of 200)
Final merit score: 200 marks (/ 200). This is the exact rule published by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University for 2025-2026 admissions.
Printed notation
Cutoff (out of 200) = (Physics + Chemistry + Biology (or Botany + Zoology) + Maths (or Computer Science)) / 2
Exactly as written in the official admission brochure. Shown as plain text for clarity.
Step-by-step calculation
Work through these 2 steps in order and you will arrive at the same score this page calculates for you. Each step is the published rule, not an approximation.

Official rules & eligibility
These are the conditions published by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. A strong cutoff score does not help if you fail any of them.
Official guidelines of TNAU Undergraduate Admission Brochure.
Academic Stream: Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Botany & Zoology, and Mathematics or Computer Science.
Vocational Stream: 5% seats reserved with vocational subject formula as specified by TNAU.
Tie-breaking order
When two or more applicants land on exactly the same cutoff score, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University resolves the rank position using the following hierarchy, in order:
- 1. Marks out of 50 in Mathematics, or in Biology / Botany + Zoology if Mathematics was not studied
- 2. Marks out of 50 in Physics
- 3. Marks out of 50 in Chemistry
- 4. Date of birth (older candidate ranked higher)
- 5. Random number allotted by TNAU (higher number ranked higher)
Your final rank also depends on your reservation category, domicile and the seats available in the round. Two candidates with identical scores and identical subject marks can still finish in different positions because a reserved candidate is ranked within the reserved list for that course.
TNAU Agriculture questions answered
The questions students ask most about this specific admission rule.
What if I am a pure science student with Botany and Zoology?
For pure science students without Mathematics, Group II(A) has four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, each evaluated out of 50 for a total of 200. Botany and Zoology are SUMMED, not averaged — Botany 90 and Zoology 90 score 45 + 45 = 90, not 45. Enter Botany + Zoology together as one total out of 200 in the Biology field and leave the 4th subject field at 0.
Is NEET required for TNAU Agriculture?
No, NEET is not required for TNAU B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture. Admissions are purely based on 12th standard cutoff marks.
How TNAU Agriculture compares to other entrance exams
Cutoff scores are not comparable across exams because each authority normalises differently. What you can compare is the structure of each rule: the maximum score, how many inputs it takes, and how the components are weighted.

What to do after you get your cutoff
-
1. Compare against last year's closing cutoff
Find the closing score for each of your preferred colleges and branches for 2025-2026, then check whether your score clears it. Closing cutoffs, not opening cutoffs, are the realistic benchmark.
-
2. Register for counselling on the official portal
Only Tamil Nadu Agricultural University can allot you a seat. Complete the counselling registration on the official website, keep the application number safe, and pay the counselling fee within the published deadline.
-
3. Get your certificates ready early
Community, nativity, income and disability certificates take weeks. Apply through your school or the taluk office as soon as the certificate window opens, because you cannot choose a preferred college without them.
-
4. Build a wide preference list
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University usually allots in rounds. A long, realistic preference list of colleges and branches protects you if your first choice is filled in an earlier round.
-
5. Keep a second option in a nearby state
We already publish 5 verified calculators for Tamil Nadu, so you can check a backup admission route in the same counselling system.
-
6. Save or share your result
Use the share or copy button above to keep a record of the score and the inputs you used — it hands you text you can paste anywhere. Printing still works from the browser's own Ctrl + P, which leaves out the controls and keeps the score, the breakdown and the formula. Both help when filling the counselling form and when checking with a mentor.
Looking at a different state?
If you are also applying outside Tamil Nadu, these admission rules are governed by different authorities with different weightage formulas, so their cutoff scores are not directly comparable with yours.
