Official Governing Equation

Combined Score = ((Board PCM / 300) * 50) + ((KCET PCM / 180) * 50)

Applied to your marks

Official Steps

  1. 1

    Class 12 / 2nd PUC Board Weightage (50%)

Your Board PCM marks out of 300 are converted to a 50-point score.

    Board Weight = (Board Marks / 300) * 50

    Example: If Board PCM = 270/300 -> (270 / 300) * 50 = 45.00

  2. 2

    KCET Entrance Exam Weightage (50%)

Your KCET marks out of 180 are converted to a 50-point score.

    KCET Weight = (KCET Marks / 180) * 50

    Example: If KCET PCM = 135/180 -> (135 / 180) * 50 = 37.50

  3. 3

    Composite Merit Score Calculation

Add Board Weight and KCET Weight together to determine your composite merit score.

Composite Score = Board Weight + KCET Weight

    Example: 45.00 + 37.50 = 82.50 / 100 (82.50%)

Official Tie-Breaking Order

What this cutoff score means

The number this calculator produces is your merit or cutoff score, measured out of 100 as a percentage-equivalent. Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) does not publish a rank directly from your marks; it converts your marks into this single normalised score and then ranks every eligible candidate against it.

During counselling, your score is compared against the closing cutoff of each course and college. If your score is at or above the closing score for a course in your preferred college list, you become eligible to be offered that seat in that round. Cutoffs move every year because candidate volume, exam difficulty and the reservation seat matrix all change, so treat this number as an estimate of your position — not a guaranteed admission.

The score alone is not enough. Your reservation category, your domicile, the quota you are eligible for (such as management, minority, or government quota), and the number of seats available in that course all feed into the final allotment. If two candidates land on the same score, the tie-breaking order published by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) decides who is placed higher.

Because this rule is not a single exam score, it combines 2 separate inputs. Enter each value exactly as printed on your own marksheet — the official formula only works on the same scale the authority used.

What you need to enter

Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) builds this cutoff from the following values. Take the numbers from your own Class 12 marksheet or entrance scorecard — do not round or estimate them.

Inputs required to calculate the KCET Engineering Combined Score Calculator cutoff
Input Range Unit What it means
Board PCM 2nd PUC / 12th Board PCM Total 0 to 300 out of 300 Total marks in Physics + Chemistry + Maths in 12th / 2nd PUC (max 300)
KCET PCM KCET Entrance Exam PCM Total 0 to 180 out of 180 Total score in KCET Physics (60) + Chemistry (60) + Maths (60) (max 180)

Practical marks and internal assessment are included when the authority includes them. Check the official brochure on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in before entering values.

Formula & step-by-step breakdown

Governing equation

Combined Score = ((Board PCM / 300) * 50) + ((KCET PCM / 180) * 50)

Final merit score: 100 marks (% / 100). This is the exact rule published by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for 2025-2026 admissions.

Printed notation

Composite Score (out of 100) = (Board PCM / 300) * 50 + (KCET PCM / 180) * 50

Exactly as written in the official admission brochure. Shown as plain text for clarity.

Step-by-step calculation

Work through these 3 steps in order and you will arrive at the same score this page calculates for you. Each step is the published rule, not an approximation.

  1. 1

    Class 12 / 2nd PUC Board Weightage (50%)

Your Board PCM marks out of 300 are converted to a 50-point score.

    Board Weight = (Board Marks / 300) * 50

    Example: If Board PCM = 270/300 -> (270 / 300) * 50 = 45.00

  2. 2

    KCET Entrance Exam Weightage (50%)

Your KCET marks out of 180 are converted to a 50-point score.

    KCET Weight = (KCET Marks / 180) * 50

    Example: If KCET PCM = 135/180 -> (135 / 180) * 50 = 37.50

  3. 3

    Composite Merit Score Calculation

Add Board Weight and KCET Weight together to determine your composite merit score.

Composite Score = Board Weight + KCET Weight

    Example: 45.00 + 37.50 = 82.50 / 100 (82.50%)

Official rules & eligibility

These are the conditions published by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). A strong cutoff score does not help if you fail any of them.

Official ranking rule mandated by KEA for Karnataka B.E./B.Tech admissions.

General Category candidates must have scored at least 45% aggregate in PCM in 2nd PUC / Class 12.

SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B candidates of Karnataka must score at least 40% aggregate in PCM.

Tie-breaking order

When two or more applicants land on exactly the same cutoff score, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) resolves the rank position using the following hierarchy, in order:

  1. 1. Higher marks in KCET Mathematics
  2. 2. Higher marks in KCET Physics
  3. 3. Higher marks in KCET Chemistry
  4. 4. Higher marks in 2nd PUC / 12th Board Mathematics
  5. 5. Candidate older in age

Your final rank also depends on your reservation category, domicile and the seats available in the round. Two candidates with identical scores and identical subject marks can still finish in different positions because a reserved candidate is ranked within the reserved list for that course.

KCET Engineering questions answered

The questions students ask most about this specific admission rule.

Does KEA consider 100% KCET marks for engineering?

No. As per the Karnataka Government & High Court rulings, B.E./B.Tech engineering ranking uses 50% 12th Board PCM marks and 50% KCET entrance marks.

Is KCET composite score used for Architecture or Farm Science?

For B.Arch, NATA (50%) + Board (50%) is used. For B.Sc Agriculture via practical quota, a separate practical test + CET formula applies.

How KCET Engineering compares to other entrance exams

Cutoff scores are not comparable across exams because each authority normalises differently. What you can compare is the structure of each rule: the maximum score, how many inputs it takes, and how the components are weighted.

What to do after you get your cutoff

  1. 1. Compare against last year's closing cutoff

Find the closing score for each of your preferred colleges and branches for 2025-2026, then check whether your score clears it. Closing cutoffs, not opening cutoffs, are the realistic benchmark.

  2. 2. Register for counselling on the official portal

Only Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) can allot you a seat. Complete the counselling registration on the official website, keep the application number safe, and pay the counselling fee within the published deadline.

  3. 3. Get your certificates ready early

Community, nativity, income and disability certificates take weeks. Apply through your school or the taluk office as soon as the certificate window opens, because you cannot choose a preferred college without them.

  4. 4. Build a wide preference list

Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) usually allots in rounds. A long, realistic preference list of colleges and branches protects you if your first choice is filled in an earlier round.

  5. 5. Keep a second option in a nearby state

Cutoff scores move every year, so keep a realistic backup course or college ready rather than betting on one target score.

  6. 6. Save or share your result

Use the share or copy button above to keep a record of the score and the inputs you used — it hands you text you can paste anywhere. Printing still works from the browser's own Ctrl + P, which leaves out the controls and keeps the score, the breakdown and the formula. Both help when filling the counselling form and when checking with a mentor.
