What this cutoff score means

The number this calculator produces is your merit or cutoff score, measured out of 720. National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) does not publish a rank directly from your marks; it converts your marks into this single normalised score and then ranks every eligible candidate against it.

During counselling, your score is compared against the closing cutoff of each course and college. If your score is at or above the closing score for a course in your preferred college list, you become eligible to be offered that seat in that round. Cutoffs move every year because candidate volume, exam difficulty and the reservation seat matrix all change, so treat this number as an estimate of your position — not a guaranteed admission.

The score alone is not enough. Your reservation category, your domicile, the quota you are eligible for (such as management, minority, or government quota), and the number of seats available in that course all feed into the final allotment. If two candidates land on the same score, the tie-breaking order published by National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) decides who is placed higher.

Because this rule is not a single exam score, it combines 3 separate inputs. Enter each value exactly as printed on your own marksheet — the official formula only works on the same scale the authority used.

What you need to enter

National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) builds this cutoff from the following values. Take the numbers from your own Class 12 marksheet or entrance scorecard — do not round or estimate them.

Inputs required to calculate the NEET UG Medical Score & Qualifying Cutoff Evaluator cutoff
Input Range Unit What it means
Physics Physics Score -45 to 180 out of 180 Score in Physics (max 180)
Chemistry Chemistry Score -45 to 180 out of 180 Score in Chemistry (max 180)
Biology Biology Score (Botany + Zoology) -90 to 360 out of 360 Score in Botany + Zoology (max 360)

Practical marks and internal assessment are included when the authority includes them. Check the official brochure on exams.nta.ac.in before entering values.

Formula & step-by-step breakdown

Governing equation

NEET Total = Physics (180) + Chemistry (180) + Biology (360)

Final merit score: 720 marks (/ 720). This is the exact rule published by National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) for 2025-2026 admissions.

Printed notation

Total Score (out of 720) = Physics (180) + Chemistry (180) + Biology (360)

Exactly as written in the official admission brochure. Shown as plain text for clarity.

Step-by-step calculation

Work through these 4 steps in order and you will arrive at the same score this page calculates for you. Each step is the published rule, not an approximation.

  1. 1

    Physics Marks (180)

45 questions attempted with +4 for correct and -1 for incorrect.

    Physics Marks (Max 180)

    Example: 140 / 180

  2. 2

    Chemistry Marks (180)

45 questions attempted with +4 for correct and -1 for incorrect.

    Chemistry Marks (Max 180)

    Example: 145 / 180

  3. 3

    Biology Marks (360)

90 questions attempted in Botany and Zoology.

    Biology Marks (Max 360)

    Example: 320 / 360

  4. 4

    Aggregate NEET Score

Total marks out of 720 used for All India Quota (15%) and State Quota (85%) counseling.

    Total = 140 + 145 + 320 = 605 / 720

    Example: 605 / 720

Official rules & eligibility

These are the conditions published by National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC). A strong cutoff score does not help if you fail any of them.

Official marking scheme: 4 marks for every correct answer, minus 1 mark for every incorrect answer, 0 for unattempted.

Qualifying criterion (NTA, unchanged year to year): General/EWS candidates must be at or above the 50th percentile, OBC/SC/ST at or above the 40th percentile, UR-PwD at or above the 45th percentile.

A percentile is a rank position, not a fixed score, so the MARKS that reach it change every year: 137 (2023), 162 (2024), 144 (2025) and 213 (2026) for the UR 50th percentile. This calculator uses the 2026 figure of 213.

Only qualified candidates are eligible for MCC AIQ and State Medical counseling.

Tie-breaking order

When two or more applicants land on exactly the same cutoff score, National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) resolves the rank position using the following hierarchy, in order:

  1. 1. Higher marks/percentile in Biology (Botany & Zoology)
  2. 2. Higher marks/percentile in Chemistry
  3. 3. Higher marks/percentile in Physics
  4. 4. Proportion of fewer incorrect answers
  5. 5. Proportion of fewer incorrect answers in Biology, followed by Chemistry, followed by Physics

Your final rank also depends on your reservation category, domicile and the seats available in the round. Two candidates with identical scores and identical subject marks can still finish in different positions because a reserved candidate is ranked within the reserved list for that course.

NEET UG Medical questions answered

The questions students ask most about this specific admission rule.

What score is generally required for a Government Medical College (MBBS)?

All India Quota (15%) General category closed around 525 marks in 2025. Treat that as a reference point, not a promise — admission depends on your rank and category, not on the raw score. State quota cutoffs are published separately by each state and vary widely by category and domicile, so check your own state board for the figures that actually apply to you.

Is there one fixed NEET qualifying score?

No. NTA fixes the qualifying PERCENTILE — 50th for General/EWS, 40th for OBC/SC/ST — but the marks that land on that percentile change every year: 137 in 2023, 162 in 2024, 144 in 2025 and 213 in 2026. This calculator compares your score with the 2026 UR 50th-percentile mark of 213.

How NEET UG Medical compares to other entrance exams

Cutoff scores are not comparable across exams because each authority normalises differently. What you can compare is the structure of each rule: the maximum score, how many inputs it takes, and how the components are weighted.

What to do after you get your cutoff

  1. 1. Compare against last year's closing cutoff

Find the closing score for each of your preferred colleges and branches for 2025-2026, then check whether your score clears it. Closing cutoffs, not opening cutoffs, are the realistic benchmark.

  2. 2. Register for counselling on the official portal

Only National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) can allot you a seat. Complete the counselling registration on the official website, keep the application number safe, and pay the counselling fee within the published deadline.

  3. 3. Get your certificates ready early

Community, nativity, income and disability certificates take weeks. Apply through your school or the taluk office as soon as the certificate window opens, because you cannot choose a preferred college without them.

  4. 4. Build a wide preference list

National Testing Agency (NTA) & National Medical Commission (NMC) usually allots in rounds. A long, realistic preference list of colleges and branches protects you if your first choice is filled in an earlier round.

  5. 5. Keep a second option in a nearby state

Cutoff scores move every year, so keep a realistic backup course or college ready rather than betting on one target score.

  6. 6. Save or share your result

Use the share or copy button above to keep a record of the score and the inputs you used — it hands you text you can paste anywhere. Printing still works from the browser's own Ctrl + P, which leaves out the controls and keeps the score, the breakdown and the formula. Both help when filling the counselling form and when checking with a mentor.

If you are also applying outside All India, these admission rules are governed by different authorities with different weightage formulas, so their cutoff scores are not directly comparable with yours.
